Fuel gauge stuck on full
Hi all,
2006 Jeep Cherokee KJ diesel.
Currently on our trip to Canberra and Jindabyne.
On the way I noticed the fuel guge slowly move to the full position, and staying there.
Turning power off drops to empty, but soon as I turn the key, jumps to full.
I guess I have to replace the fuel plunger mechanism in the tank or perhaps its electrical ?

Hmmm Not sure, I know that the gauge I got in the 2006 KJ I just bought was reading high all the time. That's why I swapped it over to the one from my 2003 model.
I still have the unit I removed if you get stuck. You could try checking the wiring for cracks too, could be a issue.

If the guage was working fine until now then the sender unit in the tank may have jammed/failed or you have a wiring problem.
The power to the sender unit is supplied by the BCM as is the ground to the sender unit. If either of these goes missing then you have a problem.
I will give you some advise later on what to check once you have the tank dropped....best to have a cheap Digital Multi meter handy so you can check some voltages/resistances while the sender unit is handy!

Was all working fine up until now, but will be awhile before i am back in brisbane. For now I just fill up every 500Km.

Filled up a few times and the gauge just started working again. Going over some busy roads may have unstuck the sender.

Great......Jeeps were designed for rough roads so maybe we all...myself included....need to get off the freeways and do a bit of off roading sometimes to keep our Jeeps healthy

Your destination could have caused the problem ..as in snow,Alpine diesel is available in the high country in winter .stops freezing. Your fuel gauge may have initially became frozen and stuck etc
