Default 2008 JK 2Door soft top CRD Manual - pricing

Hi.

I am looking at a 2008 2 door soft top CRD Manual wrangler. And would like to get some views on pricing.

I have inspected the vehicle and it is stock with no after market mods. It has 87k on the clock and needs a new set of tires for roadworthy as well as a couple of minor things like broken indicator lense. It also needs new VIC reg as it is coming from interstate.

The body and panel work is very good and can't fault anything else.

In light of the above, I am budgeting 1k in parts for timing belt service (inc water pump) (which I can do the work myself) and 1.5k for tires.

I don't want to miss out on a low km CRD while haggling over the price.

What would be a good price for this vehicle considering it needs timing belt service, tires, roadworthy and new reg.

Thanks
Kim

I paid $20,000 two years ago crd auto soft top with 100,000. Very good panel condition. A bit dirty on the inside (food crumbs etc). Engine bay immaculate. Tyres very worn and Chinese. Soft top zip stuffed. Needed timing belt done.
At the time it was by far the cheapest I had found in Australia.

What's the clutch like?

I would think $18,000 would be a solid but not amazing price to pay.

Ok thanks. Clutch seems ok. I guess there is not many CRDs around with less than 100k

Personally I wouldn't be overly worried about kilometres. Whether it's 70k or 130k the condition and history and servicing is more important. By the sound of it you are already planning on doing the main maintenance items. Do the serpentine belt, tensioner, coolant etc and it's good to go for a lot more km.

Chris' figure seems ok but again check the clutch, $2900 installed for a NPC heavy duty one (mine went at 97,000kms), don't even think of factory one. Transferring to vic isn't a problem if it passes RWC. Take a inspection camera with you to Victoads as the engine number is hard for them to check.
I paid about 27k for a similar JK with all the bells and whistles (lockers, air tank, hard top, lift, dual batts, good spotties and on and on) a couple of years ago. Probably a bit high but manual diesels are hard to find under 100k.
And see Midnightmods for genuine parts, he's a member on here www.midnightmods.com.au and vendors on here for aftermarket goodies.

You should buy mine.

It has everything you could possibly want except a D44 up front and a back seat. 100k service done, 77k on the clock, manual, hard and soft top, NPC clutch, lockers etc. There would seriously be over $30k-$40k in accessories with 2 sets of tyres. Service history is A1 as I bought from a diesel mechanic. Have dropped oil every 5,000km with 10,000's being done by a mechanic since I have had it. I'm the 2nd owner. Plus I'm in VIC.

For roadworthy the lift and tyre combo will need to be attended to and a new windscreen. I haven't had a detailed list done yet.

Depends what you are getting it for though as it may be overkill. If you buy one for $20k and you want to do it up a bit, do you have to blink very hard and you're up to $10k in accessories = $30k.

Shop around you can find 2nd hand tyres cheap, so your budget for them can be split in half, and more spent on the engine work (service, oils fluids etc)

I have my 2008 JKU crd manual with 185k on the clock, reduced to 20k, 2.5in lift, muddies, winch, front bar, roof rack , spot lights. 2 door CRD are a little less common.

As chris said, service history of it is more important, I have worked on CRD's that have less then 70k on the clock and are worse then mine with 180k. Short drives, long oil changes and missed services are all bad things on the crd.

I suggest driving a 4door as well, Everyone I know who has the 2 door regrets it and is upgrading to the 4door. handling and space being the biggest factors.
