history im not too sure on except to say it came from perth from a member on here DougG. He already has one and bought this off a guy and it was sitting at his place for a while. Doug helped out heaps to get it running and ready for the trip over to melbourne on the train.

Thanks MCLovin. I would be very happy if mine turned out to look like yours, except it will be green. I was at the muster last year when I saw your CJ 8. Its what got me thinking about owning one myself. Any advice you can give me?

Advice.....HMMMMMM....
Think about what you want to really use the car for before you even think about pulling it apart and starting the project...Daily driver? offroad weapon?Stocker etc.
You may want to register it in your own name first, or do all the work and then get it engineered.
If i was to do another one i reckon something like Flexys axle setup is the go..
coil sprung GQ axles are cheap, strong, easy for spares/lockers etc and wheels etc easy to get.Diff pumpkins already right way for tranfercase drop if using dana 300 or standard bullet proof Nissan case.
Maybe bolt up 350 chev to GQ AUTO/TRANSFER /DIFF would be easy for tailshafts yokes etc. and adapters.
Dont get me wrong i love the idea of American motor/gearbox /diffs etc but they can get pricey, Atlas 2 $3500,Diffs around $8000 to $10 000 for newies etc and thats still probably going to be a leaf spring set up.Quite often you can get a set of Nissan diffs with lockers around the $2500 to $3500 mark.
Spring overs get messy with steering knuckles and axle wrap bars etc and i was lucky that MC4X4 had the parts i needed from his past build.
There arent too many coil sprung CJ s at all out there and i think that the GQ setup would work well and should be straight forward to engineer as the engineers are familiar with these diffs. There are a lot of comp cars running Chevs and nissan diffs etc.
Maybe get hold of a wrecked GQ and use the whole running gear and suspension and build up a huge turbo diesel??(cheaper to buy Chev V8 though)
That would be different but not quite as satifying as the Chev option.

Dont waste your time with the standard diffs.

Start hate mail now......

Nope...... unless you are keep it bone stock as a daily road only driver, I'd agree. Junk the standard diffs.
