no idea what stopped, never dangerous, always had a warn to save the day..... but the whole idea of a winch os so you can self recover..... otherwise go with another car and use a snatch if you can.......

SELF recover........

Cable is only more dangerous if you are so stupid to stand in close enough proximity that it can whip out.
If the rope or cable brakes the vehicle being might then be a much large out of control object.
I have seen rope break HEAPS of times compared to very few cable breaks. So the difference is IF cable breaks compared to WHEN rope breaks.
Cable is heavier, but proportionally it's SFA.
Yes rope floats, but my jeep doesn't either
I was running rope, but now I run cable again.

Point taken Dave, but Ive winched heaps, pulled longer and faster than most (umm, does that sound ok?) and never broken rope yet.
Its lighter, easier to work with, is safer in the cable vs. rope debate, but it does require more care and some regular cleaning and maintanance.

could someone explain the difference and please use pictures if necessary..

what is the difference between, high mount winch, and low mount winch??
or is this just the position on the car, eg: high up the car or lower on the car ??

I've known more peeps with Warn winches than any of the sub $800 Chinese stuff. However, I have seen 3 Warn winches fail and no Chinese winch fail...

From my experience does this mean that Warn is junk and Chinese is the snizzle.....

I don't believe so, but that's JMHO.

What it means is that even Warn fail, and the main cause is pure lazy lack of maintenance and lack of protection afforded to solenoids.

Doesn't matter if you have the strongest, low amp draw motor of the bunch if the control box isn't providing power.

If I were to make any recommendation, it would be that a winch should have waterproof solid state solenoids - as I've seen so many highly regarded winches fail to provide power to the motor.
