Default Advice on 1st Wrangler Purchase

Morning All

Looking at my first purchase and chasing advice/feedback/direction. The below are just examples and not necessarily exact cars I will consider. but all good examples of the rubicon (3. vs crd vs pentastar.

It is a daily but i do a lot of fishing/touring and also mud/rock serious 4wd (say 20,000km a year)

Any advice would be welcomed around which direction to take and anything to be weary off or needing to be done re engine etc

Pre 2012 Rubicon (possibly 2012 but unlikely to find auto) - stock as a rock so would need suspension, tyres, dual batt, roof rack $22-28k

CRD Auto - heavily modded, likely need roof rack/dual batt. Lockers at some stage $35-30k

2012 3.6 - some mods - likely need roof rack, dual batt, lockers $25-30k

Thanks

Looking at those 3 my suggestion would be the 2nd one due to the amount that has already been spent on it. Being a 2011 model it already has the updated interior.

You just have to take into consideration that the diesel is going to cost you more in servicing costs.

Just check the service history. If it isn't up to date then walk away, otherwise there shouldn't be an issue if it's been serviced correctly.

If you're looking into the 3.6, I would suggest going for 2014+ as there is a tricky little issue with the oil filter housing that was resolved in 2014+ where a small plastic part leads to a 800+ repair for the 12-13 models. Check out any link on the 3.6 pentastar oil filter housing to see some youtubes about it.

2014+ 3.6 auto.

I fix jk crd's, and owned 2. Now own a late model auto rubicon 3.6. Never looked back..

dont worry about mods, most cases a 4-5year old lift kit needs replacing anyways, tyres will be worn out. You may not even like the metal bar work on the car..

Find a stocker and build it how you want, when it comes to jeep's you start to mod then and forget about the cost of mods because it becomes part of the family..

The older 3.8's are out dated, the interior is out dated, everything is old and worn out.
