A guy on the JK CRD facebook page recently successfully swapped in a Dodge Nitro 2008 CRD into his 2008 JK. Engine cost him about $1.5k I think. He used all the accessories and engine mounts from his dead JK engine and the swap went pretty straight forward.

I've fitted a new engine for a Nitro CRD with automatic transmission in my JK.

The original engine threw a rod bearing without given a sight forehand after 189000kms.
Travelled from Germany to the Netherlands to pick up a new engine (ready to be installed and even filled with oil) there for a good deal.

The swap is pretty straight forward, most of the parts are the same:
You have to swap your exhaust manifold and turbo assembly. The engine for the Nitro is wider than the JK. You can't use the turbo actuator of the Nitro engine cause the turbo is mounted a few degrees off.
The steering pump is also slightly different, it's better to us the JK one to be able to run the serpentine belt for the JK.
The pipes for coolant are bend slightly different, resulting in shortening one or two hoses.

it's fun getting the old fuel lines disconnected, other than this the whole fuel system, fuel rails, pump, etc are plug and play.
All connectors are in the same place and the right ones.

Don't forget to swap the spacers in front of the flywheel

I'd rather put the original JK engine.

They are the same engine, few small differences as per above post, but the advantage is that they're usually cheaper. JK CRD engines running secondhand are $7k +.
