Default Recovery Points of a Wrangler

Howdy All,

I have a stock 05 TJ, and before you all flame me yer its got the "nerf bars" I think thats what they all call them?

Anyhow apart from the front tow hook it has, I cannot see any other recovery points on it.

What can I do to improve this, where can I put further recovery points etc? What should I buy etc that can bolt onto the frame etc???

This is what I did with my old tube bar setup:

Get the standard $15 tow hooks & bolt them to the underside of the tube bar. You'll notice that they dont quite fit due to the tube. Simply grab a mallet & bash that part of the bar until it levels out. It looks fine because you can't see underneath it.

I thought Nerf bars were blingy step bars/rok rails?

I don't have that Jeep anymore (rip). Will have a look at home for pics.

Have a look at the underside of the recovery point in your photo, you should see the other end of the bolts.

The stock tow point is not a rated recovery point. For a rated recovery point you need to replace the stock hoop with a rated recovery hook.

We checked up on this a while back for MJOC and the stock hoop is simply a tie-down point and not recommended for recoveries because they are too thin.

I would unbolt them and put a hook on it and if you can't because the bling bar is in the way I'd take the bling bar off when you go offroad because frankly it looks crap on road and off road is just pointless.

Just looking at the photo I'd replace that with the small square recovery hooks which you can get from USA 4x4 or Wooders etc. They are rated, look cool and you can leave that bar on then
