Yea Cooper were the same size 285/70/17.

Played around with the pressures a bit and settled on about 31. Currently running the P3s at 33 but will need to play around with it as I get more kms on them and work out what works.

Rebalance and rotation is a good starting point, and cheap. Ask them to also check they aren't out of round. Think I was paying about $90 for rotation, balance and alignment. That plus checking for any bolts underneath which aren't as tight as they should be will give you a good starting point.

From other I know that have had DW issues it has taken slowing down to a lot more then 90 to get it to stop. If it is consistently there at 90 and goes away just a quickly I'd be looking at balance or tyres wearing out of round.

Yeh, the wobble I have is only around 90 so I think it's balance/tyre related rather than any more sinister. Fingers crossed anyway.

I noticed on the photos you posted in the for sale section that your old tyres have load rating of E (10 ply). That might explain why they were giving a firmer ride. Most of the smaller 265/70/17 tyres are usually E rated and a lot of people complain that they are too firm for the relatively light JK (they're originally designed for the heavier F trucks and the likes in the states). I thought all 285/70/17's were D rated (8 ply) though, as mine are, but clearly that is not the case. I've just checked on the Cooper and Mickey T websites and sure enough the 285/70/17 ST Maxx are 10 ply and the 285/70/17 4-Ribs are 8 ply.

Now for the not so good news. I also noticed that MT have the 285/70/17 P3's showing as 10 ply, so the same as your old Coopers. Given that MT and Coopers are basically the same company I'd say it's good bet that they are very similar construction. Might not bode well for your ride quality with the P3's. Be interested to know how you get on with them. It's nice that you've got a year or so to test drive them and see how they feel before my tyres will need changing

So far have put about 300km on them and am finding them a bit softer then the coopers. I find things like the expansion joints on the bridges on the f3 aren't as harsh. Will let you know how they go ling trem though.

I have bighorns 285/70/17 on and getting slight vibration 80-100 k had them balanced twice now and still the same, its a pain in the a.
On my shorty had the same tyre and rims and no issue.
I put it down to a bad batch of tyre.
I am running 32psi at the moment.

I have that one as well, with mine. Not as bad as with my factory tires, though!

Last time I had them balanced I asked for them to check & 4 out of 5 had a bump on them to cause the vibration.

Just came back from a Noosa North shore trip towing the van (1200kg) and was very impressed at the performance of the Goodyear Duratracs. Dropped the fronts to 18psi like usual and rear to 22 as I had the van on with 140 odd kg ball weight. Was a little nervous as to how it would go in soft sand but on the trip home we found a nice long soft heavily rutted powdery sand section with trees all along it (so I could winch myself out if needed!).

Was very surprised that all I did was drop into 4lo and second gear and keeping the revs around 2000 - 2500 rpm it just crawled through effortlessly.

Just thought I would mention it if anyone was wondering how they go in sand.

And the obligatory annoying photo of our 3 day holidy position
