Default Running Cool

Hi Everyone,

I recently replaced my radiator, water pump and thermo. The Jeep (96 TJ) ran perfectly for the following month, now however my temp gauge won't move past the first marker (50 degrees?) when warmed up. My fuel economy has also gotten worse, and my oil pressure never goes below the halfway mark. I made sure to use a 195 degree thermostat and install it with the small hole at 12 o'clock. Any ideas?

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open.

that's what I reckon

do you still have the old one you can stick back in?

if the coolant temperature doesn't reach a certain minimum set point the ecu will allow the engine to over fuel and run rich

Seems like that is most likely. Mechanic confirmed it is running at 70 degrees C. I got rid of the old thermostat. Oh well. An excuse to flush the system while I'm at it. Might as well go for a better thermostat, is it still possible to get a MOPAR part? Or any recommendations? I had used a crown automotive one that came with a kit.

Mopar thermostat is part number 52028186AC. The last one I bought was actually a MotoRad HD thermostat, P/N: 4001-95. It is a good idea to also get a thermostat gasket, P/N: Mopar 53020547AC.

Rockauto don't sell any Mopar (OEM) stuff.
I get my Mopar thermostats from USA but local dealers still sell them too.
