first mod was remove the ally side steps and the front splitter, cost free!
Sold the side steps on line and made $100,
Budget is now $1100.
Looking good so far.

Made up a front bash plate at work out of some old 5mm plate, protects the lines in front of the crossmember.
Cost free
Budget still $1100

decided i needed some side protection, found some old steam pipe, a bit of rhs and designed some rails that mounted through the plastic sill to gain as much clearance as possible. Had to mod them and extend them so the kids could use them as steps.
Cost,
Steel = free
Paint = repco under body black $20
Budget $1080
