Default 2014 JGC - Tow ball/bar kit

Hi Guys,

After taking the Jeep out for its first trip last weekend I realised one thing - I need more cargo space. This means my first 2 upgrades will be a roof rack and tow bar kit. I have placed the most importance on the tow bar kit as it will give me the most versatility for general driving around, moving large and heavy things etc.

Does anybody have a recommendation on a brand (I could order online) or a supply and fit in the ACT or even Sydney? My dealer told me it would be $1245 for supply and fit and the guy who sold me the car said that of all of the accessories I could fit, the only one that was really worth coming to the dealership for was the tow bar, due to some electrical issues. But I am sure there will be people here who have had success with a 3rd party product? Any help is appreciated guys.

Thanks in advance.

Has anybody here with a MY14 added a tow ball?

It's not much help, but I know Essendon Jeep are installing genuine towbars for $1070 fitted. $1245 seems rather high.

Don't know if the MY14 are different to earlier WK2's, but I had a Hayman Reese towbar fitted at my place for $750. No issues with the wiring or taking into the dealer for a reflash etc.

One thing to be mindful of, if you wish to instal an aux long range fuel tank at some point in the future, it will only fit if you have the genuine MOPAR bar fitted, it won't fit with the HR bar (much to my disgust). I may sell my existing HR bar and have a MOPAR bar installed some time down the track.

Northern Jeep here in Melb had genuine bars on Ebay a while ago for $475 supply only. Don't know if they are still available though.

Thanks All,

Sounds like my best option is to just go for the Mopar one, but shop around if I can. That quote was given to me by my sales consultant though no doubt with commission. Perhaps if I speak directly with Spares I'll get a better deal.

Long range fuel tank won't be necessary, at least for a while I reckon. We're getting 700km or so per tank around town and recently did a tank of 750km which included a trip from Canberra to Batemans Bay plus city driving for the rest of the tank.

The V6 certainly is economical. Really happy with it.
