roscoea26 you hit the nail on the head, the TOWING ratings are spot on and as everyone should know it is decided by the weight of the Car ie; Diesel WJ 3.5t as the diesel is heavier then the V8, with the correct loading of the JEEP it will TOW perfectly in "STOCK" trim, airbags and shock/tyre changes benifit it even more, I TOW 3T with mine and have never had a Problem... Loading is a key part to TOWING as is changing your driving to suit conditions.......

ShadoZJ,

You are correct "if used correctly" a Weight Distribution Hitch will lessen tow ball weight.

That's the message I was trying to get through when I said the tow ball weight when measured after I hooked up the hitch for the first time was well in excess of recommended tow ball weight.

You really do need to put measure that weight with scales!!! The fact that you have hooked up the hitch doesn't mean that the tow ball weight is right. Everything might look level but this will be disguised if the vehicle has cranked suspension viz airbags inflated fairly high or heavier springs.

My towball weight was checked and caravan was balanced for the Jeep as I bought the set up to match each other the Jeep has never been of the bitumen as I have said before as my wife has had major back surgery and can not handle the rough roads I have been towing caravans for 34 years and have never had a problem like this before even my old dunny door did not break and it was not treated well at all.

Why should the dealership get the blame ? So far we have a Jeep that has been fitted with an aftermarket ( Hayman-Reese ) brand tow bar by persons unknown, and may or may not have been subjected to excessive loads. If someone did that out the front of my dealership , they'd be dealing with my lawyers pronto.

Gentleman, I think if you go here http://www.caradvice.com.au/1255/200...fety-concerns/
you will see that it is a factory fitted tow bar as the piccies show, and it should be a concern to everyone, whether the hitch was poorly fitted or came loose it should be of concern and as stated factory fitted by Jeep some of the blame should stick.
