Default KJ Manual Transmission Fluid Options?

So called the Stealership and they want $75 for under 1L of manual transmission fluid. Just wondering if anyone has any options for this? According to Supercheap the correct fluid is a 75W-90. The Mopar fluid (04874464GB) doesn't nominate specs so not sure what the OEM fluid is nor what the capacity of the box is. Any assistance appreciated. Thanks.

For reference the car is an '02 2.5CRD manual sport.

Redline MTL.

These transmissions are VERY sensitive to fluid, so don't put any old 75W-90 in there.

Hey there. No, That's definitely not the right stuff for the 2.5 transmission. It is not that thick, I see to remember someone had found an alternative, with mine I just bit the bullet and got the mopar stuff, only needed two bottles of it. I have a bottle sitting at Mums I think, I can pop over there on Friday and check to see if it has any spec's on it to see if there is something else around.

I have a spare ECU for the 2.5CRD lying around with the GDE tune on it too.

Sorry... missed the 2.5 bit at the end. Thought it was a 3.7.

Chris, thanks mate, ultra helpful as always. If you get the specs it would be interesting to see but I'm guessing they don't provide details for marketing purposes. Again it's really annoying to see the Mopar fluid for sale online overseas for less than $20US. Might have to see if I can get it shipped here.

And keen to hear more re' the GDE ECU!

Did some reading on Wikipedia on the NV3550 (NV3500) which lists non-OEM fluids certified to meet MS-9224. Tried Pennzoil but no longer in Australia. Got onto Amsoil in Sydney who have quart sized containers (964ml) for $22 each. Quoted freight was $16. So that's pretty good in comparison to the dealer rip off.

Also called Penrite in Oz and they said the Pro-Gear 75-90 is suitable but don't have details on it being MS-9224 compliant. Also seems like that particular one isn't widely available.

After all that I found this old thread which goes through a similar discussion. http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...ion+oil+change

Hope that is of use to someone. Probably not many of the 2.5 manuals around anymore.

I think I remember Amsoil mentioned somewhere too a while ago. Double check the parts fische , I have a feeling there was a reference to how much goes in, also, from memory, I think I just filled mine till it was level with the fill bung, but, don't quote me on that. You need an oil pump to get the stuff in there too.

I'll pm you aboot that ECU .

chris.
