I removed the plug back of the shifter and took voltages with the ignition on. Across plug 1 and 12 I got 8.5V. Nothing across 1 and 11.
Did you check to see if you had 12V between pin1 and any of the metal brackets?

Using voltmeter;

1 - Negative on pin 1, positive on pin 12 gave 9.3V
2 - Negative on car body, positive on pin 12 gave 15.4V
3 - Negative on pin 1, positive on car body gave - 6.0V

I'm taking it that the white wire is pin 1 and the orange at the diagonally opposite corner is pin 12. Correct me if I'm wrong on this but there are no numbers on the plug.

In your second picture with the voltmeter showing 8.5V. The information that i have, the Red probe is on pin 1 and the black probe is on pin 12.

Okay, based on that I just re-measured and got;

Positive on pin 1, Negative on pin 11, voltage is 14.7V.

So that seems to indicate there is power coming from the TCM to the shifter but the shifter is not activating. Sound right?

My interpuration of the wiring diagram is the other way around.

Power comes from the fuse to the shifter module on pin1 and earth on pin 11.
Power then leaves on pin 2 and earth on pin 12 to go too the TCM module, if the wiring follows the diagram with the connector disconnected you should have 12V between pins 1 and 11 and 0V between pin 2 and 11.

With this connect plugged back in to the shifter module you could test power to the TCM again on pins 29 (+12V) and 30 which is ground. If 0V just move the lead to the body and see if 12V is on pin 29.

If 0 volts, then no power is coming out of the shifter module and this may be the fault.

Meccano, thanks again for the assistance. I've reconnected the plug at the back of the shifter and then with the ignition on tested the voltage across pins 29 and 30 on the TCM plug. No voltage at all there. Tried a couple of different ways including to ground on the car and zero voltage all around.
