Default 2" bumpstops from a rubber mallet

did a 3" lift on my xj and made the front bumpstops from a $5 rubber mallet from bunnings as mentioned in passing on gojeeps website...heres how:

*buy a 32oz cheapo mallet with a WOOD handle (bunnings)
*measure up 2" and cut with a hacksaw
*sand the bottoms where u cut it smooth with a coarse sanding disc on an electric sander
*mark the center and drill a 7/16" hole clean through then countersink it with enough to get a socket onto the bolt head once the coil spring is repositioned/replaced
*drill a 3/8" hole in the center of the bumpstop perch and then clean the perch with methos (i sanded mine down to get through the paint so the adhesive used would stick better)
*wire the bumpstop into the center of the coil and reinstall the coil
*before you remove the wire restraints, apply some gutter silicone (Fullers from Bunnings) to the perch then undo the wire and position the bumpstop
*insert a hex head 7/16" (1.5" length) sheet metal screw into the bumpstop and using a 1/2" ratchet with the appropriate socket socket between the coils cinch the bumpstop down...
you can use either silicone sealant OR the sheetmetal screw to secure the bumpstop to its perch...i like to overdo stuff so i glued AND screwed.....voila - 2" front bumpstops for $5
the screw size illustrated is MUCH smaller than what i used but gives you and idea of what type to use - put a flat washer in there as well
dont forget to raise your shock mounts 2" to make up for the lost suspension travel

I did this many years ago on my XJ but I couldn't get the silicon to hold them there. I ended up bolting them in to get them to stay and they have been fine ever since.

Cheers

yeah Steve, i wondered about that when i read how gojeep attached his hockey pucks with gutter silicone...im thinking the rubber mallet will have less cohesive tolerance to the silicone so added the screws just to be safe (dont wanna be pulling springs back out just to drill two holes)

I did the hockey puck method, hockey pucks cost me about $6 each. Gutter silicone glue is still holding very well.
