Thanks for that Clarky. Have printed off the Star case like you and will pop back to the dealer with it tomorrow and make sure they have it and carried the remedy out properly. As you can see, I'm new to this site and hadn't seen that other thread. When I was talking to them today, they said that someone from the U.S. had been over recently to train their mechanics in solving the problem. They have had two Grands in and used the 'new procedure' and, so far, no recurrence of the problem. I don't do a lot of off-roading but I tow a caravan and it is comforting to have low-range available. I will be checking regularly to make sure it is still there! Other than this fault, the Commander is a great all-round vehicle. I traded in a two year old KK 70th Anniversary for the five year old XH for the greater towing capacity when I bought a bigger van and, prior to that, had an old ZG Grand. In my old age I have become a Jeep nut!

Ask them if Star Case Number: S1321000016 is the current procedure, it will be interesting if they have changed it again.

Default N23 Recall problems

Hi Clarky,
Called in at the Jeep dealership with the-print out and they confirmed that the Star case quoted was current practice. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Yes, the recall was a year or more ago. The recall to cure the original problem of going into neutral then caused the problem with the low range. It has taken them a while to sort that out but the Star case quoted is an instruction to sort out the second problem caused by the recall. The Star case came out a while back and I was checking to make sure it was still current. It is.
