By sheer coincidence I found a Youtube video last night where a person complained: My phone is charging. I stop the vehicle and go into a store. When I return I find the charging has stopped!
It might be that with the power off the phone does not charge.

It's not a charging issue, it is a connection issue. I suspect what is happening is that the jeep isolates power to the usb's when the car is turned off and this is causing the connection to drop out. Whereas all my other cars, the usb maintains it's connection even with the car turned off. It's got nothing to do with the iPod the problem lies with the car.

I think I may have found a solution to this one. Using a program called Doubletwist (It's EXTREMELY slow but gets the job done) I sync my iTunes library to a USB memory stick. So far my music starts up first time every time, with playlists, album art, etc. So hopefully this has overcome a problem that should never have existed in the first place.

After running the USB stick for a couple of weeks now, everything seems to work fine with music starting up every time. There are only a couple of downsides:
1. Your playlist count will go back to 1 when you start the car, but it still picks up from where it left off and doesn't seem to repeat songs. So not sure if this is an issue or not.
2. I don't believe that your play count updates back in iTunes when you re-sync but this is no big issue either.
But overall I'm happy with this workaround other than how slow Doubletwist is. The only other syncing program I have found is called iSyncr which seems to get good reviews but I haven't tried.

Thread revival.....
After 12 months of this "workaround" I've decided it is giving me the 5hits too much with Doubletwist being too glitchy and slow. So now looking at another option.
What I am looking at now is a portable SSD since they have come way down in price. The idea is to get one big enough to hold my entire library then export all my music to the SSD. I experimented with a portable HDD and it seems to work but I would be concerned that the HDD would fail eventually due to vibration from being in the card. Also a SDD would read a lot faster than a HDD.
So my question is, has anyone used an SSD via USB for music? I might just bight the bullet and get one then give everyone feedback.

I just tried a mechanical hard disk and it seemed fine. I am currently trying an SSD -256 GB Samsung - with a LOT of files on it and it has been sitting there for 5 minutes saying "Connect Device"...
I'll keep trying.
Cheers
