Default No start and fault code reading

Calling all 2.7l crd gurus:
1) failing to start the car after changing the fuel rail pressure regulator, think I'm doing all the right fuel priming stuff. Just don't know what to do next
2) what do you guys use for engine fault code reading? I've tried twice buying elm devices to use with the software from jeepswj.com/software/
But in both cases couldn't get it to work. 😥

Used to use elm but it doesn't work now.
Try a leakback test you may have a dodgy injector. Seems to be common.

It won't fire until the rail pressure is up. After changing the pressure regulator valve, I would expect it might need a bit of cranking to get the rail pressure up.

For priming, are you vacuuming out of the bleed valve on the LP side? I use a hand bulb pump and a piece of tube. The air in the rail may land back in the filter (if the temperature/air valve on top of the filter is tired) so you may have to prime-and-crank a few times to get it to fire.

Have a close look for air in the clear LP lines. Be sure that there is fuel going to the HP pump - it relies on it for lubrication. It dies quickly without it.

Thanks guys. Guess I'll have to wait until I get a working elm reader one way or the other before I should tinker any further. I just hope I haven't stuffed my high pressure pump by now...
