Default Clicking Before Starting - not the battery!

Hi All
I appreciate there are lots of similiar posts, but after hours of searching, I haven't been able to find the issue which I have.

I recently purchased a 2008 Jeep JK Unlimited Diesel Manual CRD (First Jeep, I love it!).

There is a clicking noise when I put it into ignition.

I have:
checked the battery - full charge
taken the connections off, cleaned off corrosion with a steel brush, and replaced them

The engine still starts fine every time!

The click persists after the engine starts.

The noise is coming from the rear of the car, not in the engine bay.

Can anyone give me any pointers? Is it safe to drive in the meantime?

Dan

Big Dave, you're a champ.

Thanks. I've been stressing for 2 days.

A "click" from a JK fuel pump is unusual..... a "whir" is normal as its a rotary electric pump.

Me neither hence the questiom mark. I have a Pentastar JK and don't notice any pump noise, not like my old 96 XJ that I had for 16 years [emoji16]
