Default just about had enough. what's it worth? 2 x crd kjs

This is not a for sale add, I'm not in a position to sell and won't be for several months. i just want honest opions of what it may be worth. the loans paid back and i want to go back to a forester. i know what they are roughly worth but this ones a little different. it's an 07 diesel limited. 130xxx klms on the clock. in the past 2 years it's had
timing belt and water pump
arb deluxe bar and warn 8500
tranny cooler
ba xr6 leather front seats
new altenator
upgraded fuel filter head
egr turned off in the ecu
carter in tank lift pump
2.5" hd ome springs and shocks by crd stu
has 31"s and and a set of standard wheels with good tread.
diy hd roof rails
uhf
trans skid plate
full service history
hot diesel solutions model 001 thermastat housing
hayden hd fan clutch
new upper and lower ball joints
trans service
new glow plugs
it does have extensive hail damage.
currently the daily driver.
the second one is an 07 diesel limited with 200and something klms. it is the same color and panel work is good. it is a repairable write off damge being a couple of broken lifters and a badly warn cam lobe, i havn't had the head off so i don't know what the pistons are like all the parts off the front are in it plus the original seats and front bumper off the daily. it was purchased for spares and to swap out the body.

Check out my Ride(s)
Default

I'm a hard nut that will screw down every $$ I can, but for what it's worth....

If I was looking to buy I would be around the $6k mark and for the parts car I'd reckon no more than $1-1.5k

I say this because out of all the things in your list the only things that would add value over and above the car are the bar/winch and the full service history, maybe the roof rails (and if the rack/awning comes as well but I suspect this'll move to the new ride) and even then it wouldn't be much. The hail damage and the perception it gets used for what it was made for (not that it's a bad thing, used by an enthusiast often means well looked after) bring the price down.
The parts car is an unknown and with the engine damage means it's essentially a panel and interior only parts car that needs to be towed home.

Talk to Cmohr here, he parted out one of his old KJs. The problem your going to have with all that money you have sunk into the 2007 is that the potential buyer will look at the Car Sales.com equivalent. It is pretty low kms for a 2007, about the same as mine actually, but as far as the engine is concerned the damage is already done. The time to turn off, or block EGR, is when it is new; at this point the
Intake manifold is pretty clogged with soot and oil, and performance will be way down on new vehicle specs. Most KJs are selling to cash strapped families looking for a second car to haul kids around ( as long as they only have two). Your accessories have no value to them, in fact they probably decrease its value because buyers will think some 4x4 hoon has been trashing it.

Consider parting out the 2007 or accept your not likely to get more than $6-8K as is. Heck that ARB bar could probably get $900 on its own. The 2007 CRD engine could be sold as a running engine, and new crate engines are expensive, like $15k. You might get $4-5k for that engine, as long as you throw in the wiring loom needed to run it. The 2007 engine would be a nice rebuild project, all it would need is a strip down of the top end, clean out the intake manifold, etc. The radiator and intercooler are worth something, a couple of hundred each as long as they don't leak. The intercooler would need a clean out anyway because it will have oil sitting in it.
Just my opinion. It seems a shame to sell it at a loss if you could get ten more years out of it.

Sold my spare 05 KJ with a dropped valve for $1000 after I took out the auto valve body, transmission computer, engine computer and body computer. Needed at least a new head and one piston but could not find a wrecked engine to supply cheap parts. Sorry I sold it now. One with a sick engine was listed for sale in Brisbane for $500 about a week ago. Would have loved it but too inconvenient to check on it at the time. Sold now. Very reluctant to part with my current KJ CRD.

Good luck Tim, I am trying to sell mine as well. It's on Carsales but there is not much interest.
I suspect that the recent publicity about a dead Grand Cherokee CRD has caught the markets attention, and spread the gloom to older CRDs as well, despite being completely different models and engines.
I noticed on the VFACTs report for October that Jeep sales were down 33% on figures from the previous October. A brand going backwards.
Try sticking them on Gumtree. I had mine on there briefly and got a message from a guy in the USA looming to buy it. I guess the attractiveness for USA buyers is that the CRD was only ever sold there for one year, and parts for them are hard to find. They are tightly held by an enthusiast group. Of course if it's a foreign buyer they have to handle all the export stuff, transport, etc, but if you find a buyer who is willing it could work. You could try the LOST forum in the US to start if you want to explore that option.

John I think in your case, an engine rebuild could earn you some money. The rebuild kits and parts are available from IDParts, or VM Specialist UK, and you might be able to get head assemblies etc from local VM Motori suppliers, I know there is one in the Hunter Valley.
A rebuilt CRD engine could be worth $10k I think, or sell the engine as a rebuild project to one of the US guys.
