After three years since I made this and with a soon to finished trailer hanging off the back, I'ts time to mod the rear wheel carrier to better suit my needs. It (the wheel carrier) was put together in a rush and I was never really happy with it, but too lazy to change it. Now with another locality move pending, it's time to get on with it.
The things to consider before changing it:
1. modify with minimal cost (use as much existing stuff as possible)
2. change the side which it swings off (to make for easier access with the trailer on)
3. make it shorter for the swingout arc to be able to open with the trailer on.

Have got enough leftover bits of steel and had a think about how to go about it. Got a new locking system yesterday and a few days off (well on call anyway). Will post an update with pics this arvo to see how i have got on.

Interesting ideas, I am in the process of designing a rear bar with removable swing out tyre carrier....

Well got most of it done today. Didn't make it much shorter, but good to have it open on the left side now and swing right out of the way. Still need to put the latch on and reroute the number plate wire.

Ha JJ, If you go back through this thread you fill see!
It's a nylon bush. Been on for 3 years now and still ok.

I put the carrier out straight and climned on and jumped. Held me ok, Might put a few little gussets under just to make sure it stays put.
