I guess my use of the word "fortifying" could be misconstrued. One could make their home more secure, yes security cameras included, without going overboard and turning it into a bikie style compound, which I'm guessing would be illegal anyway.
And I agree with you in respect to your martial arts training. Best to avoid a fight than to fight and hope to win.

Now for my 2 cents worth. I grew up through the 60s and 70's was very gung-ho and military enthusiast. I also had cap guns and this didn't make me aggressive or a killer. Back then it was the norm for young people to have firearms and go shooting it was not a big deal. I actually had a shooters licence before my drivers licence. When I was in the Police Force I joined the Army Reserve and most members had their own military rifles as well. The weekend I got my drivers licence I went shooting with my brother. Back then it was very common to go shooting with a few mates as this is the one reason I got a 4WD. As a military enthusiast I liked Military firearms. At the time I owned a M1 Carbine, SMLE 303, an AR15 and a Winchester lever action .22 rifle. I never went on a killing spree or did anything illegal with my rifles. It was a different time back then and everyone I knew owned a firearm of some type. When the killing sprees happened in Australia the attitude of people changed that if you owned a firearm you were a killer or deranged mad man. There is an old Australian movie called "Smiley get his gun" made in 1958 about a young mischievous boy around 10 to 12 years wanting a .22 rifle. I could not see a movie like this being made now. The outcry would be deafening.
By the way I don't own any firearms now or a shooters licence.

Respect is what we all need to be armed with. Respect for ourselves, others and their property.

The only problem with this is that the people who argue for the right to self defense are claiming it upon those who don't possess the ability to respect others.

It's a sad reality that not everyone is a good and honest person
