I had no leaking head gasket. After the first coolant loss they checked that and several times after. The coolant loss was all through the coolant reservoir overflow.

I didn't want to rain on OP's parade earlier, I feel sorry for you, but...head gasket, warped/cracked head or not

If you let it over heat much more you'll surely have one, or more, of the above soon

Other items to check if not already done
Is the Fan coming on when hot ?Crucial when towing
Thermostat ok ?
Has a pressure leakdown test been done on the cooling system.?
Check to see all radiator,ac cooler etc in front of vehicle are clean of insects, debris etc
These are basic checks when cooling systems fail. As Hoobz said you will do permanent engine damage if you keep on driving it.

Could be time for a monoxide test of the cooling system as the problem sounds similar to what happened here:

All, we managed to drive 3700 kms from Melbourne to Darwin without an issue (although it only hit 40+ once we hit Darwin). Along the way I only watched the analogue temperature gauge. Sometimes it got close to the red but would then slide down again. The first time it overheated on the way to Kakadu it was 40+ and when we stopped I found the radiator cap had become loose which I think explained the loss of much of the coolant. Darwin Jeep tested the car as much as they could but the problem only occurs when it is under the extra load of a caravan. Desertman’s issues sound very similar. Over the last two days we have managed the problem by not letting the temperature get above around 113C. In the still 40+ temperature this keeps us to 80-90 km’s/hr although at least we get great fuel economy then. Above that it it seems to quickly escalate and several times we have had to stop by the side of the road in 40 degree heat waiting for the radiator to cool sufficiently to be able to refill the coolant tank.

Finally, all indications are that the coolant is escaping from the overflow tank, not from leaking pipes. When it did overheat I would see the coolant bubbling away and steam escaping from the overflow pipe. Whilst I agree it is very hot up here, I just still think we should be able to get more from a three year old car. However, it looks like we will just have to manage the problem until we return to Melbourne and then try and convince Jeep that there is actually a problem even though demonstrating the problem may well be impossible. One good feature of the Grand is that as soon as the temperature rises above 120C lots of alerts go off to make sure you are aware of it so doing serious damage is significantly reduced.

Where are you now? If near Katherine I can do a leak down test for you.
Testing for exhaust gas in the coolant isn't the best test to rely on.

Just to give you an update, after driving a further 8000 km’s we finally reached Melbourne and home. Through this we learnt how to manage the overheating problem and continue our trip. It meant that we needed to constantly watch the temperature but found that we could do around 80 kms/hr but all hills were a problem and steep hills required many pull overs to allow the engine to cool down.

Now that we are in Melbourne I had our Jeep dealer look at it and they believe it is a failure in the coolant over flow bottle and that it is releasing pressure to early (I did notice early on that the radiator cap did not seem to tighten properly). Anyway, they are going to replace the coolant bottle and then we will retest it. As it is out just out of warranty they have said they will try to get Chrysler to reduce the cost of the bottle which is sort of good (it shouldn’t take much labour to do this).

If this is the problem it will then make us very angry about the Darwin Jeep dealer and why didn’t they pick it up. They had it for five days and they should have noticed the loose radiator cap.
