Default Side awning without roof rack- possible?

Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone has managed to attach a side awning to a WK2 without running a roof rack..
I'd love to be able to have a easily removable side awning that can attach directly to the original roof rails.
Has anyone invented some cool, little brackets/clips that bolt to the roof rails and can hold a side awning?

I had one of them. Worked well enough. Drooped a little when wet from condensation. But we'll with the 27 bucks I paid. Small packsize too. I then upgraded to a bigger roof rack required awning.

I had a side annex on mine at Jambo. I mounted it to the rails using a piece of 40x40 SHS. Ubolts were used to wrap around each rail and I then drilled holes on the steel to allow the ubolts to fit through.
