Default Warn XD9000 winch

Hi guys I'm chasing some advice if anyone can help,

I have recently acquired a warn XD9000 winch from my father-in-law.

Approximately 18months ago the tie rods were accidentally broken when he helped out somebody who had gotten stuck on the beach (Very kind of him) Ran a blanket in and broke the casing where the tie rods attach.

About 2 months ago I helped him remove the winch due to the clutch not working properly and the winch wouldn't free-spool. So off it went and tjm fixed that all up.

I helped him re-install it and re-attached the wires. He tried to use it when I wasn't there and it sparked then failed to work, So he removed it and took it back to tjm and they basically told him it was throw out material.

I've just hooked everything up to my jeep and sat the motor on the ground and it works fine, So I guess mis-alignment caused it to spark and then not work.

He is going to buy a new winch anyway now because he was quoted approximately $400ish to get new casings and new tie rods for it.

I guess my question is: If I can fabricate a way to align it up perfectly and then bolted it into the bar I am fabricating then would it be fine to work and be and be able to be used for recoveries etc? I would have to assume that the tie rods are only for alignment and wouldn't be able to take any load....

I'm not sure what the casings are made out of, appears to be some sort of alloy or cast steel perhaps? If anyone knows what they are made out of would be great to know as well.

I thought they might be cast alloy. I had good luck with buying parts (M8000) from ARB here in Tas - took a while for the parts to arrive but the prices seemed reasonable.

A quick Google and I found the link below and now they ship worldwide. Just be sure that you use the right parts lists for your year and model winch - I emailed Warn with the date code and got the right one in less than 24 hours. The drums supports are $71 and $77 and tie rods a bit over $5. Even with shipping it's a lot less than $400
