Default Tasmanian Tracks?

We are looking at spending 2 weeks in Tasmania in late August. While much of the time will be spent touring the non-4wd sites of Tasmania, we do want to try and get off-road or see some sites that require 4wd access.

Can anyone tell what the must-do 4wd areas are and if they are likely to be accessable at that time of the year?

If so, where can I find out more information about them?

Thanks.

If Jonesy isn't on the board, Lexx might have his number - he runs 4wd tours around Tassie and would be your best bet for info.

mmm.... thanks for the PM Ando, I missed this topic I better put his out here in case anyone else wants to know.

well that time of year is usally starting to get wet and snowy they dont technically shut 4x4 tracks down in winter....but some are IMPASSABLE not a challege, not a bit to hard, not "what are you scared", but impassable.

These are
1. The Balfour track
2. Sandy cape beach (quick sand)
3. Leperna track or southport lagoon (same thing)

What i would recommend.
1.jefferies track ( near hobart )medium/easy
2.Montezuma falls (up the west coast) ? i havent been here for a while
3.wellington range (near hobart)
4.Ben Lomond ( not really 4x4 but really specy, its a ski field, when we get snow, a Very good drive)

Thanks Jonesy. That discover tasmania site is pretty comprehensive. And thanks for the recommendations.

Sorry to hear about the liability insurance stuff. Must be playing havoc with all the "adventure" operators down there.

Might give you a call when we are down to say hello. What part of Tassie are you in?
