Curioser and Curioser, that will give the MT man something to chew on! I wanted MT Tyres 265/65R17's and given the advice and warning elected to stay with the 245/65R17 Coopers (both made in the same factory)
The only other issue was the front suspension bolt clearance - the MT's would have rubbed as I have only the medium OME springs up front as I don't have a bullbar, so in the end both factors influenced my decision. I am about to test a Tyre Pressure Monitor in the second spare, see seperate thread, which I will add to shortly.

My point was if 265/65R17 are an option then Jeep MUST have a tyre/rim sticker that says that - even they couldn't be so dumb as to have an option that didn't include the sticker. If I could find their email address I'd ask them if they do. Guess I'll have to ask my local dealer

Lift doesn't change the position of that bolt or the associated rubbing problem as it's below the lift not above it. I have the 2 1/2 - 3" ATS lift and the bolt's still in exactly the same place under the spring / shock.

Ok I have looked for any information from Jeep that the WH has come out with 265's. There is some models that came out with 235/65/R17, 235/60/R17 and 245/60/R18. The SRT8 in the US has 255/45/R20 on the front and 285/40/R20 on the rear the export models have 245/45/R20 on front and rear. But the main tyre now is the 245/65/R17.

As far as I know that size was never an option.

That is just a typo on the redbook site.

When I bought mine in 2008 the brochure listed optional AT tyres, but still at the 245/65R17 size.

I got a call from my wife this morning "I think I have run over a stump now my tyre is flat". How the hell did she do that in a school carpark?? I went and had a look and yes she had spiked the sidewall. No way in hell I was going to waste money on another Goodyear ATR. Good excuse for a new set of rubber in a size that can be found a lot easier. After heaps of quotes the best I got was from a mate, BFG AT's LT265/65/17 for $330 each including fitting and balance. I cut the bolt just in case before they were fitted. All good, no rubbing and $hit they look good .

I said "what does that mean for me?" So he said "its the Australian National standard and is with 265/45/17's my car would be legally compliant in the ACT."

So I asked my insurance company, they says if it is roadwothry according to the ACT govt then its fine with them.

I draw your attention to the following website.

http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roa.../vsb_ncop.aspx

Then specifically to the link regarding tyres and suspension page 16 of 71.

NCOP11 Section LS Suspension and steering 3 Feb 2006

I printed it out and took it back to my tyre bloke and he was happy.
Thanks for that info WhatNoJeep. I had similar encounters at the tyre shops and have printed the page for future use

My insurance company (AAMI) also said the same thing in terms of upgrading tyres and compliance.

As per last sentence. They've even covered me when I had a 4WDriving incident, hardly any questions asked, picked up the car, called back and writ the car off and paid me the agreed amount via EFT. Just happened so fast.
