Default AW4 trans cooler hose quick disconnect fittings

When I changed out my auto trans, I found the quick disconnect fittings that retain the cooler lines into the trans contained a little plastic clip, that had become brittle, and broke when I took them out.

If this happens to you, I found a solution

3/8" Fuel Injection filter quick disconnects are almost identical, and do in fact work

In this pic, you can see the original metal fitting, which retains the 3/8" cooler pipe, with 2 o-rings and the plastic clip

(the pic shows 5 o-rings, the original green one, 2 x Imperial, and 2 x metric)

So I fitted the new clip (pictured) with 2 new o-rings and it holds together as it should. It is very important to remove and clean any old pieces of plastic, dirt, or o-ring from the fitting

The whole fitting is available as a Dorman product from USA

If I had an insurmountable issue, I would attempt to replace the M14 x 1.5 quick disconnect with this

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Racework...72.m2749.l2648

(its a m14 x 1.5 male with 3/8 barbed fitting, so you can just run rubber lines all the way, as the quick disconnects at the other end will probably be either shot, or leaking...you can also get fancy with other types of quick disconnects

I ordered one anyway, as I can use it to measure trans pressure, if ever needed.

The T55 has the same thread,

I also ordered an M14 x 1.5 to 1/8 NPT adaptor so I can fit a trans temp gauge

Good detective work Tony.
Do you have a link to the quick disconnects that you purchased.
I might grab a few for future use. Also, exactly what orings did you end up using?

Cheers,

Cheers,
I got the FI fittings and o-rings of a mechanic mate of mine

after first taking the items to an auto trans specialist, they wernt very helpful

I got 4 of them off him and the o-rings out of his boxes

the metric o-rings are a tad thicker, and I did fit both, the metric ones are a bit tighter

I was advised to speak to an FI specialist and show them the clips if I want more

its very easy to pull the o-rings out of the fitting and lose them when retracting the pipe or cleaning, good to have a couple of spares

the green ones are usually auto aircon, hopefully auto trans fluid doesnt affect the ones I got adversely..it shouldnt

good work Alex.

I do have one of the original green o-rings, and it looks to be Imperial, as they are ever so slightly thinner profile than the metric.

I might put a vernier on them to check, but as I said, I tried both, and metric holds the fitting in tighter, imperial a bit looser

Its a bit concerning that the 2 jaws of that nylon clip is all that keeps the pipe in, they lock into the metal fitting, and are depressed by squeezing externally.

The ones on my trans were very brittle, and broke into pieces, so you would be knackered if you didnt have replacements..even worse if on the road, as it ejects your trans fluid.

I was told to just go down to an FI specialist, and mention my mates name (otherwise I would be told to fk off) and I could get them for nothing or very little

My mechanic mate also had 5/16 versions, seems like they are a standard item

Yep, you would think that the clips would be a little more robust.
I do have the engine watchdog connected to my transmission with an alarm set to go off at i think about 110C. It also reads out my engine and tranny temp as im driving, so its a bit of piece of mind.

Cheers,
