Default Interior lights

Anybody get annoyed with the interior lights on cherokees.. the ones you can't turn off? found out how the other day.

If you have a roof console.. (Classic) take the console out and cut the yellow wire AFTER the junction block/Connecter. If you want, you can wire a switch to it like I have so you can turn the light son or off. Just wire the yellow wire to the switch and find a place to put said switch (Garage door pocket thingy!) open the door, flick the switch, no lights. Might have to cut the rear light switch's yellow wire as well..

Once you do this, the rear door will activate ONLY the rear light, and the 4 doors, the interior lights. Flick the switch and you can turn off the lights when you have the doors open. Hope this helps some people!

Cheers,

Colin

I think most jeeps will be able to do that when you open the rear hatch.. but not when the doors open.. Hmmm.. strange! Nice console though!

Hi,

On my '98 I disconnected down in the front footwell at the big junction block so that the interior lights still come on with the remote unlocking, just not with doors open. Complicated to explain which wire, if anyone wants to know post a request and I will look up which one I did and how to locate it.

I also did the change on the rear hatch lamp so it never turns on all lights, just the rear compartment lamp. The switch in the lamp now just disables it alone.

Cheers
