Default Sensor on Crankcase Vent Tube (2.7 CRD)

Part number is 05080183AA. It sits where the PCV pipe goes into the turbo intake. The parts book calls it the crankcase vent valve, but it is not a valve at all. What is this this and what does it do?

I found an MB part 6110160630 that looks like it. It is called just engine intake sensor, which is not much help either.

Jeep mystery device number 5 ?? I have wondered about this too. The part in question has 12volts applied at start up and when i plugged a spare device in to the loom, the copper core got quite hot. Made me think it may be the mythical "crank case heater", as seen on page 8w-10-26, and again on page 8w-30-35 of the wiring. Colour of the connecting wires are the same and it appears to be powered up when ever the ignition is on.Sooo it looks like it may be disconnected on my jeep, save about 1 amp of wasted power, get an extra 0.001km/liter!!

There is a similar “engine air intake heater” device on the 2015 WK2 diesel crankcase vent hose just before the air inlet to the turbo. Part # 4861678AB

Cheers

Got to wonder why hot blowby gasses need heating...maybe the device has a bi-metal contact that opens the cct above a preset temp. Could have to do with trying to keep oil droplets in a vapour rather than droplets?

Crank case breath valve heating is very usefull in cold climate countries. Without that, breather can sometimes stuck with icy gunk and that makes the breather not working. Making the pressure high inside the crank case and sooner or later breaking something.
