Default Snapper Rockers

My Daughters KJ CRD recently skipped its timing belt resulting in broken rockers on the intake side. My mechanic has pulled it down for inspection & recommends it's junked the motor. I know the rockers are sacrificial, but what are the odds the valves have survived unbent. I can get 16 rocker arms from the UK delivered for $300. If the head has to come off its not worth the labour cost.
If anyone has experience with this your opinion would be appreciated.

regards , Jasen

I would think a simple cylinder pressure test would reveal if there was an issue with bent valves not sealing, problem is, whether or not damage has been done to the pistons themselves as well. There have been a few threads about timing belts breaking and the resulting damage, most engines have been fixed, If you can get the parts cheap, also a new timing belt kit, plus labour??? All depends how much the vehicle is worth these days, and how important the vehicle is to you, as to, if you want to fix it.

If you decide to scrap it, let us know on this forum. After a good body for a transplant.

If your mechanic is friendly and could diagnose the cause of the problem as hydraulic lock due to a big puddle from on-road driving.... you might be able to claim for that on your insurance.

Thanks to those of you have replied. It's not worth the labour costs to repair.
I will be returning it home in Victoria Point in QLD to sell off the major parts or if someone is interested in it whole.

Regards Jasen

Hope the wifes JK 4 door doesn't give me the same sort of greif.

Yes, I understand all too well, I had a accident on my old KJ, great vehicle, but, just too much to fix it, and no guarantee that it would have been successful fix.

I cut my losses on it, grabbed another KJ and moved all my bits and pieces over to it.

With these CRD's and the timing belt, it really is preventative maintenance.

100,000kms or 5years to be safe.

They are designed to break so there is no damage to the valve.. even if somehow it magically is damaged $300 is cheaper then what he is going to pocket to remove the head for most likely no reason.
