Default Lost Keys

I lost my spare key and now have to get 2 new keys with fobs and I wanted to check if I am best off going to a dealer for help.

Anyone have any guidance?

The first question is what Jeep you have?
There are 3 situations:
1) You have to go to dealer to buy keys off them because what you have are those "keyless" ones which they might have to look up your vin to get replacements. Or you have no idea about where to get keys elsewhere and program that by dealer which cost is unknown.
2) You know what you are doing and get a spare key elsewhere and ask dealer to program it for your Jeep. There is a chance that you get the wrong spare part for your key etc..or dealer just doesn't want to do it.
3) Your key is completely possible to be programmed by anyone with the right tools in shopping centre. Or it just doesn't need to be programmed at all.

Since you are asking this question, the safest bet for you is 1, which is never the cheapest option.

2011 JK

So the dealer could source replacement keys and config them without the vehicle being on site? Really don't want to get it towed if I don't have to.

From what I understand, you'll need to have your vehicle on site. (others can confirm)
I assume that you have lost all your keys?! If that's the case, you'll probably need to tow that to your dealer. As I understand, they will need access to your immobilizer with their scan tool to program the new keys.

iacon, how did you get on?

This is a bit old but it applies to all who loose keys. If you share you suburb in your post I can direct you to 1 or more Auto locksmiths who can come to you.
Firstly it's impossible to tow a vehicle without a key in the ign to unlock the steering, you can't tow autos either. Tiltray to dealer or get an approved auto locksmith to come to you.
The safest way is to always have a spare key, it' might feel like a stab in the wallet at the time, but it's going to be a whole bucket of hurt when you loose the last one.
There are now lots of alternative key/fob/prox options out there that weren't available 12 months ago.

You can tow an auto. All you have to do is put the transfer case in neutral.
