Default Reserve fuel light kj 2.8 crd

My fuel light came on today and I found a service and filled it up. 68 litres into a 77 litre tank. Is this normal for the diesel to have a reserve light come on with 10 litres reserve? I guess it pays not to run them dry as there may be some dirt in the last bit of fuel or water etc. Any thoughts? Nick

Yep, 10 litres is about right. I try not to let the tank drop below 1/4, although driving from Vienna to Bremen a couple of years ago, we were on an autobahn and there were no fuel stations for about 250 miles, at a point where we'd already done about 200. By the time we were able to fill up, the fuel reserve light had been on for a long time! To say it was nerve wracking is putting it mildly. It was the first autobahn I'd ever been on which didn't have fuel stops every 25 or so miles.

Yeah, being a 4x4, it's better to get an early warning than a late one. with 10lts or so, you still have around 80km range.

My light has consistantly come on with around 20lts left, I drive till it comes on, and fill up, 55 -58 lts for years.

The tank in my JK , the light comes on, and it's 68 lts or so, so only 10lts as you say.

I kind of prefer the 20lts in reserve option,

Dont panic. My XJ has a distance to empty read out. When the light comes on, it shows 50km till empty. Once it shows 0 till empty I have driven 40km without running out. Have never run out. The most I have ever put in it is 82 ltrs & its a 78ltr tank. If you are truly worried, get your self a 5 or 10 ltr good quality jerry can & keep it in the back full.

I own a KJ CRD 2005 since new. On road it runs 150k after light comes on and as I see increasing refill intervals a way of increasing your fuel economy, I always drive for 100ks in normal conditions after light has come on and then refill which takes around 78 litres.the tank takes almost 84 lites. I've seen people talking about dirt in tank and not letting it go try, but never had any issues in this respect all these years.

Thanks for the advice. A recent trip Melbourne and back with 1600 kms on the clock showed fuel use at 7.5 litres per 100km. Is this accurate or is there some form of reset overnight etc? It seemed to show at 7.3 to 7.5 all the way back from Melbourne.
