Put in the new headunit (with aux in and remote) and mounted the screen. The camera shows a lot of reflection but in person it looks great.

The mount, it uses the surround for the stereo as this is nice and strong, I think I will stiffen it up with some aluminium later though.

It mounts in front of the stereo and a little over the aircon controls, they are easy to reach still and the stereo has a remote.

Using the eeepc onboard cam to test the reverse cam feature. This is a basic cam so I think the one I have coming will work well.

Later this week I'll wire it in properly and start on the laptop mount in the centre console.

Cheers
Steve

Hey Guys,

You've given me a brilliant idea with this, I was just going to mount my eeez pc or whatever it's called, you know, the small one. I have now been out to Jaycar and brought a 7" touch screen TFT/LCD Colour monitor currently on special for 339 bucks for the month of march (usually 500). I have a dilemma though, my jeep is a 2003 KJ Limited and space is not one of the things that this model boasts, has anyone else done something similar and if so where have they mounted it?

Cheers

Hooked up one of the cams, it was late in the afternoon when I took this vid so the sun was shining straight in. Video is fine for youtube etc so one will be going in the front as well now and the rear will be angled down a bit more so I can use it more effectively as a reversing cam, although it isn't wide angle so I dont expect to much from it but it'll do fine for $18

Vid here http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/gallery/a...0090306_172304

Cheers
Steve

Since you're going to the trouble of installing cams and connecting them to your CarPC, may I suggest having them on a continuous recording loop eg 30 seconds? That way, if some idiot crashes into you, you'll have video footage of who was in the wrong

Cool work, I wonder how long before manufacturers put LCD instrument clusters in so you could put this stuff where you want it, or a way to let a PC talk on the comms bus so you could replace the instrument cluster with a PC and pair of small LCD's.

Glass cockpit in a car....would look neat. Until you get a scorching hot day and the panels are all black and unreadable for 10 minutes while the car interior cools down
