Default Delay in reverse (auto)

2014 WK2 diesel Overland - If the car sits for a couple of days and is then started and shifted into reverse, nothing happens. The car will sit there in reverse and you can rev it and it doesn't move. Then after about 5 -10 seconds it gradually starts to move, almost creeping but it gets stronger as each second ticks by until it seems to be completely normal. Total time to recover to normal operationg is probably 15 seconds maybe.

Only happens when car has been sitting, never after it has been operating. I have searched a few US forums and in earlier models it was a non-return valve (?) malfunctioning and the oil was leaking back into the gear box. I am very unclear on this as I am not that tech savvy.

Anyone else heard of or experienced similar problems. Its going in for a service shortly and I want to bring to the attention of the dealer.

cheers in advance

I have the same thing happen going into Drive, I have noticed if I bump it to Neutral & then back to "D" it is fine. Also It only happens when I start the engine & place it in gear within 5sec after starting.

Try shifting to Neutral or waiting 20sec before engaging a gear. let us know your result.

Cheers

I know that if I sit for 20 seconds or so it will engage properly.

BUT thats not the point, there should not be a delay, especially if when it happens is erratic. That says to me that it is a problem and who is to say in 12 months when the warranty is out that there wont be a failure where I will have to pocket the repair bill.

Far better to bring to their attention, get it on the service record and get some focus on repairing it. This is what I have found so far, although it is old, it describes the problem perfectly

But you should have the ZF 8 speed in MY14 and on but that gearbox mentioned is in the MY11 -13 diesel

Doesn't mean that that is not the problem, poor quality filter
