What's going on Billsta?

It seems that you've been firmly on the anti-Jeep wagon for weeks now.

Again - as I said to that idiot on the other forum....... we get Austrian-assembled Grands here in Oz, and I genuinely think that there is a difference between US-assembled and European - even if the parts are the same............ except for the CRD of course, which has a lot of Mercedes stuff hanging off the engine.

Whoever said that they are the "best" car.... and "blindly" more so? Not me! If I were to go on a long desert trek like the Gunbarrel - I'd be taking our Patrol!

Brake rotors warp every 6,000 - 10,000 miles (been there done that)
- 50,000 kays this week. Best brakes I've ever had on any car. I theory I should have been on my third set by now. I haven't even gone through a set of pads (1/3 good still) after 50k.

Loud drivetrain noises (whining) at highway speeds (been there done that)
- Yeah, bad diffs - had mine replaced. No troube since.

Bumping transmission and clunking between gears (been there done that)
- Not on the Mercedes box.... smoothest auto I've ever driven.

Transfer case, transmission, and differentials needed replacement - several times within 12 months (not me someone else has icon_wink.gif)
- Diffs replaced. Transfer case and auto transmission still beautiful.

Failure of four-wheel drive / quadra-drive (been there done that)
- Huh? Vari-locks not installed in mine.

Stalling engine and failing fuel pump (been there done that)
- Not on the diesel so far.

Pull to the right (been there done that)
- Pre-2002/3? Mine pulls up straight as a die.

Power windows fail (been there done that)
- No problems yet.

Screeching noise in steering wheel (been there still doing that)
- Uhm.... nope.

I hope that much development has gone on between your model and the later models. That's all I can put it down to. I suppose that it goes to show that the vehicle is on the improve.....

Why is it a good article, interesting maybe but not good Seriously though it's normally the people that have had problems that post not the ones that haven't and do you believe this one 100%

Transfer case, transmission, and differentials needed replacement - several times within 12 months (not me someone else has icon_wink.gif)

You'd have to think that maybe the driver had something to do with it or do we blindly believe that Jeeps are all bad.

Cheers
Steve

Enough already. My GRAND may not be as "GRAND" as some of you think, but it is MINE. I know my grand inside out, I know exactly what it is capable of, it does what i ask of it and in return it get's my respect, and if you think for a moment that i am sick and in need of medical attention , then come between me and my JEEP, if you dare

PS: Dont feel lonly because other makes of 4x4 can and do give just as much shit as oure's,and dont be misled into thinking that they are cheaper to run or maintain, bull shit. end of story

here, here.

after trolling through that ozexplorer site there are complaints from owners of almost every brand you can think of....including new Prados and 100 series, GU Patrols.....etc,etc,etc

jamjar is spot on....unfortunately for ALL of us

Ya take it offroad - you're gonna break it.......

I can't see that I'd be breaking the Grand any more than a Prado owner who does the same things. Kel's right and so is JamJar.

The only reason that I said I'd take the Patrol on a long desert trip is that it's bigger (fits far more inside) - that's all. As far as fuel consumtion goes though, I'd probably end up taking the Grand and sticking our trailer on the back anyhow.

I'm starting to trust the Grand now. 50,000 kays and really no problems apart from the diffs - which are still running well after their replacement. I'll be swapping out the front shaft at next service for a double-cardan unit, but that's par for the course in D/C's eyes.

Same goes for dealers and warranty repairs, some say Jeep dealers are the worst..."never buying another Jeep blah blah" I'll reading Ford, Holden, Subaru & general auto forums myself i can honestly say we could do a lot worse in terms of problems, dealer attitudes and re-sale values.
