Default WH to WK/WK2 upgrade?

Love my WH, but in the natural progression of life, sooner or later will have to get a newer model. (A new one is out of the question)
The Question is, do I wait a couple of years until I can get the current model with 8sp tranny under $40k? By then my WH is going to be worth $10k if I'm lucky.(That would cost me about $30k to upgrade then)
OR - sell the WH NOW, get a 2011/12 model for just under $40k, maybe get $18K for my WH?(Cost about $20K) Keep that 2 or 3 yrs and upgrade again?
(Cost another $10-15K)
Mightn't cost much more to upgrade now and reduce the risk of the WH requiring major repairs in the meantime?
Anyone got a spare crystal ball????

Hi crdV6,
I was in the same dilemma as you late last year. Started looking at pre 2013 Limited diesels with the 5 speed auto and was told that the 8 speed is so much better. Ended up buying new.

Havent driven a 5 speed auto but do know that the 8 speed is awesome. Heaps of power and torque and unbelievable on fuel. I have done just over 700 Klm's since my last fill and the needle hasn't yet hit 1/4, and is showing 8.9 Lt per 100 Klm's. This includes two full days of towing my tool trailer in and around built up areas.

My advice would be to get what you can for the WH and see if you can stretch your $ a bit further so that you can buy the 8 speed auto.

Cheers, Craig

Hi CRDV6
My situation late 2013 was I had to spend approx 5-6K on my WH V6 diesel and then hoped nothing else would go wrong, ended up biting the bullet and bought a MY14 diesel Laredo with Q/L. Loved my WH as it is a mighty car but the MY14 is soooo much better. I agree with Craig's analysis.
Good Luck with your decision.
Regards

Cuppla thoughts...

- MY14 with 8 speed box started to arrive mid 2013. Those cars that were early demos and FCJ staff are now starting to appear on dealer lots. Here's 20 to choose from.

- Don't discount the 5 speed box. It's the box you know and love from your WH and doesn't have the electronic bugs that early 8 speeds seem to have (hey, after all, it's a Chrysler - they come standard with electronic bugs free of charge ).

- Go the Trailhawk. Awesome car, based on Limited so a bit more upmarket but with QDII, QL, rock rails, under body kit, SRT style seats. I ditched my MY14 Laredo at the last minute for a runout Trailhawk, best car decision I've ever made.

That's exactly what I did - I picked up a non-driven/showroom demo. It had 37km on the ODO and the only thing I didn't get to choose was the colour. Mine is a 2013 build MY14 Laredo 4x4 petrol (I'm not a fan of diesel, but I'm not opening that can of worms on a 4x4 forum) and paid less than the sticker price of a 4x2.

I bought my WH in 2009 for $29000, it was 3 yrs old, 75k on the clock and had 2 yrs warranty. Why can't I get a 3 yr old WK for this sort of money? The WK cost $5000 less new than the WH....WTF?

They're a better car so they hold their value better.
