It seems like there is no common brand of oil being used by the dealerships. I have serviced mine with the same dealer since I purchased it and they use Castrol Edge 5W30 DPF compatible oils.
I have not asked them if they are using the 5W40 oil and they did not confirm a change when I had the 40K service a month ago.
I have now purchased Valvoline 5W40 and Castrol Magnatec DX5W40 and will be using these in the future. I suspect that the dealership I use will also be using Magnatec DX5W40 as they appear to be a Castrol house.
I will check at the next service and confirm/deny.
Cheers,
DM
DM, what they are using should be stipulated on your service invoice.

I've always supplied the oil myself because I knew that they charged $150 for 8 litres of the stuff. They told me that they used Castrol oils and I therefor supplied it myself. I also began to supply oil filters as they charge $80 for one!
Hi.
I have just changed the oil and filter on my GC 50 000 km service. Went to supercheap auto they checked they manual and recommended Nulon long life dsl 5w 30 conforms to ACEA C3. 10 liters cost $82.50. For the oil filter I went to Jeep dealer and purchased genuine Mopar filter for $73 (made in China). Previous service @ 40 000 km performed by dealer they used Valvoline sypower mst 5w 40

I'm interested to know why did you decided to change back to 5W30 - SCA's manuals will be out of date as the FCA change is relatively recent.
Hi Desertman.
It was confusing what grade to use, but I will go with 5W 40 next oil change and will try Ryco oil filter, as Mopar oil filter is made in China and cost $73.
Old post but also read a 2016 TSB re the change of oil from 5w-30 to 5w-40.
As my jeep is a 2014 was concerned as every oil change has been 5w-30.
Spoke to the local jeep service dept and he pointed out it relates only to 2016 diesel models built on or before a certain date in 2016.
The wording is a bit strange but thats their reading of it.
Urgent TSB issued by FCA 2016 for 5w30 to be removed from all stock vehicles in dealers ,change customers oils asap. This was due to a number of engine failures in US.Penrite here told me that if towing in continuous hot conditions even a 5w50 would be better still.Of course must suit DPF filters and be synthetic.
