CJ7: Anna Lee - The Journey Begins
Hello fellow Jeepers,
Hi my name is Tim, and I'm in love with my CJ-7 named Anna Lee. She's my daily drive, my weekend cruiser and my pride and joy. I've had her for about six months now, having bought her with the good intentions of bringing her back to her former glory. Over the past few months I've been observing your posts with curiosity but never really participated. Until now, I haven't really bothered pulling my finger out of my arse and setting to the task at hand. As I'm currently out of a job, now is the perfect time to get started. I thought I'd try and put up a few posts along the way so as to bring you guys along, and hope that you all might give me a little advice and feedback too... Would be much appreciated...
So I've sat down and written down a bit of a to-do/wish list. It would seem that there is a lot to be done. I'll start with those things that are actually impeding me from driving it.
Firstly, I need to sort out my windscreen wipers. They are currently set to manual operation only - ie you need to use your hands to toggle the swing arm through that little hole in the windscreen frame. The metal around where the wiper arm is connected to the windscreen frame has over many years become weakened. It bends and flexes as the wiper arm pivots, causing the blade to get stuck against the glass because of the angle. So basically, I can either dodge something up to strengthen the frame, or I can replace the windscreen.
This opens up a whole new can of worms though: If I replace the windscreen, I loose my paint job. The paint is not that great, but I wasn't ready for this decision yet...
The jeep is currently white. I like it. I used to have a CJ2 that was bright orange; I'm not looking for something that out there again. I've seen a cj7 rolling around the eastern suburbs that's powder blue; looks awesome but can't just copy. I've thought about going drab olive; not sure if I can deal with it and it makes the truck look smaller. Maybe I ought to keep it white?
I guess a big part of it is that I don't have the cash to get a professional job done. I've got access to a compressor but no real experience spraying. So a big part of this decision is going to be selecting a finish that looks good but which any idiot (ie me) can apply.
So, was wandering if you guys might have some advice for me on this front?
