All now seems to be ok no damage to electronics that appear to happen sometimes with alternator failures! However had to delete fifty three trouble codes that the low battery set off! It makes me wonder what WK spares you now need to carry if in say outback Qld .I carry basics ,thought about the alternator but thought wouldnt be much good if you didnt have one!

I could just imagine trying to change one on the side of the road.......... I don't have enough load capacity to carry too many tools or spares.

I have a spare 220 amp alternator on the shelf in my garage that I took out of my previous Jeep...it was working fine when I had it replaced, just did so for "insurance"...I didn't want it to fail on me being that Jeep had done 180,000 kms at the time.
I did consider taking it with me on the lap, but I thought too that you have to draw a line somewhere, the alternator is pretty bulky and heavy and would be a pita hanging around in the back of the Jeep.
The "new" alternator I fitted is still on the old Jeep, I plan to take it off but it looks like a bit of a mongrel job...hard to get to the mounting bolts. But at least I'll then know how hard it is to replace..lol
As you write drover...would really not want to be changing one on the side of the road!

Many, many moons ago I had my wonderful Landy, had the usual petrol spares, dizzy cap, plugs, points, condensor and rotor button, early one morning about 0430 after getting over Barrengary near Fitzroy Falls it shuts down, found the rotor button had split, no drama I have a spare which after carrying around for years discover it was a 4cyl rotor in a 6cyl rotor box, some araldite and one of the new fan dangled zip tie things I manged to get going, after a couple of mods along the way I finally got to my base and a raided the workshop spares for 2 new rotors ........... actually most times I have failed to proceed it was only simple spares needed nowadays the same a hose clamp fail has been the common thing on all my Jeeps, hope that all it ever is, the Sunday tyre kick check is the saviour...

Well I must have run over a couple of Chinaman on our NZ trip in the 2012 WK GC diesel .Up in the North Island driving up Mount Egmont national park beaut day ,snow on the mountain.etc ! On the way down the airbag warning light came on,then got to an intersection put my foot down ,Jeep came to a full stop.no motor .Twice this happened.Could have been wiped out.!
It was the dreaded fuel pump relay failure again. In went a new relay! Thought I would then run a scan to see if anything was causing the airbag warning.Geez up came about two door intrusion sensor warnings !Now I can only put this down to the boss who let the passenger door slam ultra hard in a high wind the day before,! ! Deleted those ok but not the airbag warning. So I checked and wiggled the wiring under the drivers seat, presto no more warning light. I have owned and worked on Jeeps for thirty years ,they sure test your b….y resolve and patience!
There is one given ,if you travel into country areas also carry good scan tool and learn how to use it!
