Default WH CRD had an oil spat

Hi all,
Thought I'd share an unusual experience I had today with our GC.

Am on a 5 month trip towing a caravan and over at Derby WA I decided to top up the engine oil and added 1 litre, put the cap back on and then headed off towards Fitzroy Crossing.

Stopped for a cuppa two hours down the track and noticed oil everywhere over the back of the car and also the front of the van.

I checked the filler cap thinking maybe I'd left it off but it was on but only one lug was securing it.

Thankfully I'm an old bugga and need my coffee fix regularly. It had lost nearly 2 litres in that time.

Yet another one for the uninitiated and thankfully no damage done.

Cheers
Bazza

I've actually heard that with the CRD's you have to have the oil cap on the right way, i.e. if it's 180 degrees around the other way, it can also leak.

I've just gone through the experience of oil being sprayed everywhere.

My problem was caused by one of hoses on my Provent which due to its' intermitent malfunction prevented the CCV from venting.

The resultant build-up of pressure caused the dip stick to pop-up slightly so the vent in the dip stick tube could come into operation - oil everywhere.
