I thought the same about the trailer plug and have pulled it apart and cant find a problem.

The front park lights come on and the raer tail lights. If you put the lights on (park or low) everything works as normal.

The XJ has that buzzing sound alarm for if you leave the keys or lights on the car. I did take it off years ago.

I have pulled the headlight light and pulled the driving lights off aswell with on luck, havent tryed the fuses or tail lights as yet.

I had a similar problem and it turn out that wire in the center consol that powers the bulb in the shifter was routed wrong and was getting crushed when i put it in park ... kept blowing the headlight fuses and making the reverses lights erratic

A single element bulb used as a stop tail light will also cause this

Exactly what I was alluding to, that or the wiring @ the tail/stop light is some how crossed. this can happen with the right bulb put in the wrong way too.

finally got a chance to have a look at the tail lights, and it was a globe, the globe blew and the element was touching the other.

Thanks for all the help.
