What is it about the Amsol or Rotella that makes them stand out more ??..........

Hi drover...have been doing spreadsheets for a while now on various oils.
From my research; Shell Rotella has a TBN of 10.6. The higher the TBN or Total Base Number the higher the ability of the oil to neutralise contaminants / combustion byproducts. Which is what one wants if extending oil change intervals. (i change oil at around 5,000kms max so that is a tad irrelevant)
Amsoil has a TBN of 10.4...very similar. (Penrite Enviro+5w40 which is used by a number of owners, has a slightly lower TBN of 9.6)
On top of that the viscosity index of Amsoil is 175, Rotella 159. Interestingly the Penriet Enviro+ 5w40 specs read a VI of 197! The higher the Viscosity Index the more resistant the oil is to viscosity change in temperature movement.
Sulphated Ash is similar at 1% in both Rotella and Amsoil.
What I like about the Rotella is the specs read viscosity at 100c is around 14.2, Amsoil 14.6. Both Amsoil and Retella read a viscosity of 87 at 40c.
(Penrite Enviro+ 5w40 has a viscosity of 13 at 100c, 68 @ 40c)
I have found that some engine oils can be a tad slow to circulate on a cold start, though cold is like 25c here, the tappets can be heard chattering for a bit longer before quietening down as oil reaches them.
Fortunately oil goes to the crank first!
Cold cranking resistance for Rotella is listed as 6000, Amsoil 6075.
The Penrite Enviro+ 5w40 shoes pretty good specs as well with s ccs of 5340, lower resistance than the Shell and Amsoil in fact.
The Penrite Enviro+ 5w40 is a pretty good product, the only shortcoming is it does not comply in spec with the CJ-4 stipulated by Mopar for the VM Diesel...
I've got Penrite Enviro+10w40 Diesel Oil in mine atm, which is CJ-4 compliant, but it has a high ccs of 6600, and I reckon it too takes a bit longer to get to the top of the engine.
Hence my move to try out the Rotella...I like the specs.
