Default Rock Rail bench ;)

haha!! made you look !!

Bought home some 40x40x5mm angle and a mig from work to test out my welding skills as i'm going to start to get a bit more adventurous with FAB work.

I started at 4.30pm today and finished at 7pm including the gloss black kill rust paint. I ground back all the welds flush in prep for a solid timber top 30mm thick. Rounded all the sharp edges too.
I wanted to keep the bench off the ground so I can hose and/or sweep under the bench for clean up days

I've got a bench grinder and a vice sorted, just need to get a drill press now. Going to get my local sparky to put a a double power point on one of those white steel beams, and another fluro light directly above the bench.

I'll weld a couple of shelves above that bench on the weekend.

Beats watching TV............

Very impressive Stu, some rock rails could be a good start.

That's where i'm headed. Instead of the usual low hanging ones, i'm going to make something up that looks similar if not identicle to what i've got on there at the moment - But steel instead of plastic

Just bought the same $99 Ozito Arc welder like Steveo's. Its a small compact lightweight unit that you can throw around like a rag doll yet perform decent welds with it. IT came with a 3 yr warranty that is as solid as the words from the Bible, so i'm sold. Going to give it a test this weekend. Giy at Bunnings said they've been really popular and havent had one comeback !

My 1st proper project is going to be a set of car ramps - well 1 actually
Going to make a mini RTI ramp for 'testing' out this & that on whatever 4x4's I have now and forever !! hehe!! That'll get me some good practise in before I make the sidesteps. Then i'm going to do a custom flat one piece front IFS skid to replace the stock (but modified) one.

I got that same welder after reading Steve's rear bar thread and its great.
I also need a pair of car ramps, but don't think I trust my welding at this stage to make something thats going to lift the Jeep above me

Stu I rekon that you will need to make another work bench By the time you put your vice then the bench grinder and the drill press on that one there won't be room to work
