Default Installing a dc to dc charger with the smart alternator

Hi all,

I've got a caravan with a Ctek D250SA dc to dc charger which requires the installation of an ignition wire so that the charger can tell when the smart alternator is running or not. My question is has anyone installed one of these chargers in their Jeep and where did you pick up the ignition signal at in the vehicle?

Cheers

I've got one installed in the van and no sensor wire.

Works fine, system voltage sits on 14 whilst I'm towing, the same when not!

Where would you prefer to pick up ignition? I used the Accessory feed that powers the torch in the boot to switch my trailer power...

FWIW, I never see voltage less than high 13's... so I'm not sure it's necessary. Have you observed an issue, or just going about doing it "by the book"?

Cheers, Steve

I also have a C Tek DC/DC charger in the van which picks up the feed from an Anderson plug on the rear of the JGC. No ignition switch wire of any kind and I, like others have reported, get over 14 Volts to the Anderson plug.

Cheers,

DM

Mine must be a bit different to the other comments because without the ignition wire the unit does not work.
It is set up when the ignition is turn off the dc to dc is turned off to prevent draining the car batteries when parked.
I pick up on an accessory wire that is only active when the ignition is on.
