Default Heated rear window will not turn on WJ

I am having trouble with the heated rear window system. When the button is pressed the orange light comes on the straight away turns off. Has anyone else had this problem and is so how did you fix it?
Thanks

I've never used the heated window in mine, so I won't even pretend to know how it works. What happens if hold the button in?? Does the light stay on?? Just wondering if it may be a switch problem

Have you checked that the wiring isn't shorting out or the fuse blown. I haven't used mine in so long but if it is a latching type switch or something it may not get the signal to latch and trigger if there is a short or missing power feed in the system somewhere. I'd check the fuse then the wiring at the window and the wiring as it goes through the rubber sleeve at the tailgate hinge. Also the relay (I'm assuming a heating circuit like that would be relay powered), swap the relay with something else if there is a similar relay available.

They are the easy parts further than that you might have to start tracing the wiring right through. Probably test the switch with a multimeter if you can get at it. Start with the easiest bits and work your way through.

Been looking at the wiring in the FSM ... seems more likely the fuse is blown.

I believe it uses a relay which is switched by the body control module, the dash switch signals the bcm.

Correct .. the relay is controlled by the BCM then if the BCM does not see the relay activating correctly it is turned off?
The hint here is maybe that the light comes on (activation) and then goes off (BCM does not see the circuit active although I don't see how the light comes on in the first place).

Best guess, but still all goes via the fuse.

Vehicles and electronics were never going to be good mates (especially when the details are at best scratchy).
