I agree with you entirely on the Diode vs capacitor comment (of mine) and that IS coming from an Electronics Engineer (past life and ongoing hobby)

These Narva ones were advertised as being ok to use on canbus type systems but only quote having a diode installed and nothing else! However, they worked great on the JK!

I run 2 96kW LED spotties and a 50" LED Lightbar both triggered off the highbeam. I fitted them with the pre-wired loom/relay/switch combo that came with them without a problem.

If it's a pre wired loom, switch, and relay for LED's, it will (should) already have the capacitor and a diode (or sometimes resistor) protected relay. Any decent setup for LED's will include all the right stuff, Jeeps aren't the only vehicle that runs this kind of system [emoji106]🏼

Very true, that's why I went the way I did instead of installing rocker switches which was what I really wanted to do. After reading all the issues people were having I thought I'd use what came with the lightbar.

I was worried about the LED spotties as I had IPF halogens fitted. I used the already installed wiring instead of pulling it all out and re-doing it but there wasn't any issues.

How's this... I thought I would do an experiment, and just hook the Hi beam trigger direct up to the relay without any diodes, capacitors, etc...

I measured the voltage on the trigger line, and it was about 6V (so I guess its a 50% duty cycle on the pulse width modulation).

Aaaand.... it works fine. No pulsing on the LED's. I am using mini relays with an internal resistor, and I guess they are slow enough, or the threshold for closure is low enough, that the relay doesn't chatter, so no pulsing.

Go figure

I don't think I'll ever figure out Jeeps. After owning 2 and modifying both myself I just put it down to being a Jeep thing whenever they do something weird.

What works on one, might not work on another. It certainly makes researching what other's have installed interesting.
