I'd make the mix less than 50/50 unless you're gonna see subzero temps..plus not sure why all those upgrades/mods? What are you planning to do with it?

Your right about the mix. From what i have read, glycol does not cool as good as water, so the mix will more likely be 70/30.

I will be doing a lot of beach and dune driving in 40C temps.
The Jeep is off the road at the moment and is getting overhauled and engineered. I want it to be perfect and dont want any problems, so i am replacing the cooling system as it is getting old and tired. I will keep the old parts as spares. The upgrades are just that.. instead of the OEM gear, i would like to go a step further to make sure i have no problems. My XJ has extra weight in the roof rack, tyre carrier etc, larger tyres, bigger suspension, re-geared and is 21 years old and done 330K. Still runs and looks new, but giving it a birthday.

Forgot to mention i am also replacing all the welch plugs so there wont be any leaks there and also replacing my cracked headers with ceramic coated SS ones to help reduce under hood temps.

Cheers,

Since this is "the" cooling thread,

I'll just dump some photos in here ... and let internet conjecture take its course.

2009

Complete cooling system overhaul.

2011

Leaky rad inlet, soldered up, t'stat change for temp testing records, and fresh catspiss poured in.

NEW RAD >> http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PRO-3ROWS...sNY&rmvSB=true

2016

3yrs out of date ... 2yr service life, Type B, "coolant"

Probably should have left it alone ... Seems nothings changed.

Observations:

Radiator had a cupful of murky water come out, after it was stood on its ends for flushing.

2 cups of coffee hiding in the heater core, with clean heater hoses ... damn alloy heat exchangers ..

... and its a 97+ ... so no heater tap.

6plus yrs with out a 50/50 "coolant mix, and not a Stant product to be seen ... amazing ..

A caution:

Still running one of those over rated alloy radiators ?? ... then probably best to use a "type A" coolant, with no less than a 25 or 30 % eth-gly qty.

If you dont look under your radiator cap at least 4 times a week ... make sure you change whatever liquid you're using ... by the due date .. or sooner

.

Yes and very pleased with it. It has the oil heater/cooler on the LHS but I wasn't using it anyway. I also don't have an a/c condenser so it slotted in quite nicely.
