Odb2 scanner for TJ recommendation
Hi all.
Bought a cheap scanner on eBay which doesn't want to sync up with my MCU.
Does anyone have a recommendation for OBD2 scanner for a 2005 TJ?
I was looking at the obdlink LX but it says it might not work on Australian jeeps prior to 2007.
Does anyone know of any that would work?
Cheers.

What are you needing to do with it?
TJ is a pretty basic animal.
I bought a Bosch off eBay secondhand for about $60.00 and it does everything I need on my 2005. Fault finding, clearing codes ect,,,, just a basic obd2 which plugs into the port.

Just basic checking of errors if I need to. Nothing major.
Bought one of those from eBay and it connects to Bluetooth just fine but then fails to connect to the mcu.
Figured I'd look into a better option.

Autel products I find are the best at communicating with most vehicles I have tried, I find they will often communicate when other scanners refuse.

Just do the key trick and then to clear codes disconnect battery for 15mins or so.
Key trick : You don't need a scanner to read your '05 codes, it can read its own and display them on the odometer display. Turn your igntion switch on-off-on three times within five seconds and then leave the key in the On position so the diagnostic routine can run. Within a few seconds any DTC (diagostic trouble code) codes found will begin to display on the odometer. Give it a few seconds, they don't display immediately. Then google what the code means. It does just as much as a scanner but it’s free.

Fair call. I also wanted to hook it up to torque pro.
But I guess the switch on off trick would work.
You guys had any experience with getting a HUD working with OBD2 on the TJ?

I haven’t, but I can tell you this about HUD - I have a 2017 VF Commodore with HUD, at night great, in daylight wearing polarised sunglasses almost impossible to see it. Have to take sunglasses off but what is the point of that? Rather than HUD I mounted a cheap Garmin GPS on dash and switch from Map to the (large) Speedo function. I love it.
