Default People of Melbourne, where do you buy your tyres?

Looking to get new tyres. Sure I can get KO2 for $330 each easy. But every truck around here has them. Im looking at Cooper maxxx but those are $410 each. Surly theres a good place to source at a good price around here?

I have bought tyres 265/70/17 MT 10 ply from Superstar group (an Indian wholesale tyre supplier etc) at 12-14 Fullarton Drive Epping. 03 9408 5770; www.superstargroup.com.au. Mine cost me about $180 each fitted and balanced and the old tyres disposed of at no extra cost. I bought 6 of them.. I have had them over bitumen, deserts, stones, mud, sand etc and they have been faultless. They can supply any tyre you want for a better price than what u r putting forward. I have had expensive tyres prior and I would not pay such prices again.

The tyres I have on now handle as well as any of the expensive ones I have used.

I like the maxim of the tyre and garage guy in Boorooloola: when asked by a travelling punter in needs of new tyres "What is the best tyre to buy" The tyre guy answered.... "The cheapest"...

Not in melb but i go with my local low key tyre shop, just ordered 5 33" kumho mt51's @ 270 ea fitted and Bal. (Don't know how they will go never had Kumhos).

The thing with the big brand label shops and tyre companies is someone has to pay for the advertising, magazine promos, and TV ads. Two ways to minimise that surcharge is choose tyres and dealers that dont have exhorbitant advertising campaigns or choose the biggest dealer network so the surcharge is thinner.

I don't like Coopers anymore, had one good set of ST's 15 years ago that were very good (85kkm, no issues, reasonable grip in all conditions). Then a bad set of STTs that locked up badly at a hint of wet bitumen and we're very puncture prone. My mates just got back from a Cape torture trip and said the STMaxx was the worst of the 4 vehicles with lugs tearing, chipping and puncturing 3 tyres. The others BfG, MT, and General were all decent and apparently General held up the best. Hard to justify the extra money given my experience.

Have just had an amazing experience with Bob Jane (CBD store). Basically got an amazing price match on some in demand tyres (295 Grapplers). They were very professional, rang me up multiple times with updates.

THanks guys Ill give this a go. What size are you running? Those 3.8 are a bit under geared. Im in the 17 rim. Im thinking 32 but a bit concerned about performance. Should I go with the original 31.5?
